Islamic Bank of Britain is run day-to-day by a senior management team overseen by an elected Board of Directors. The current members of the Board are:
Mr Khalifa Jassim M.A. Al-Kuwari, CHAIRMAN
Mr Al-Kuwari (aged 34) is a Qatari national and is the Chief Operating Officer of the Qatar Investment Authority ("QIA") and Qatar Holding LLC ("QH") where he oversees the entire business support infrastructure (Risk, Legal, HR, IT, Finance and Administration) for QIA and QH. Mr Al-Kuwari is also the Head of Business Development department at QH. Mr Al-Kuwari joined QIA in early 2007 as a senior member of the QIA team.
Mr Al-Kuwari holds a Masters’ degree in Accountancy from Cleveland State University in United States of America and sits on the board of directors of several local and international companies.
Mr Sultan Choudhury, MANAGING DIRECTOR (INTERIM)
Mr Choudhury is an Executive Board Director. He has been with Islamic Bank of Britain since January 2004.
Mr Choudhury set up the Bank’s Head Office Operations and Branch Network. He has led the development and implementation of IBB’s full product range and service delivery channels. Mr Choudhury is a member of various Community and Government advisory groups and has contributed significantly to the development of Islamic Financial Services in the UK. He is a Main Committee member of UKIFS (UK Islamic Finance Secretariat) a body which promotes the UK Islamic Finance industry and is responsible for the retail domestic market.
Mr Choudhury previously held senior roles at Charles Schwab Europe, Barclays Private Bank and Deloitte & Touche.
Mr Choudhury, a Chartered Accountant (ACA), holds a BA (Hons) in Economics & Econometrics and an MBA from the University of Aston. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (for whom he sits on the Employer Panel for the Islamic Finance Qualification).
Mr Robert Owen, SENIOR INDEPENDENT DIRECTOR
Robert joined the Board in February 2007 as the Senior Independent Non-Executive Director and has over 25 years experience in the UK banking and consumer finance sector. He is founder and Chief Executive of Chambers Harris a specialist consumer finance company.
From 2000 to 2006 he was founder and Chief Executive of London Mortgage Company (LMC) building the business to £1.4bn of assets. Before forming LMC, Robert worked for Lloyds TSB as a divisional director in the consumer finance division and latterly as Managing Director of Endeavour Personal Finance a specialist lending subsidiary of the Bank.
Robert has BA and MBA degrees and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a member of the Institute of Islamic Banking & Insurance.
Mr Adel Mohammed Tayyeb Mustafawi, DIRECTOR
Mr Mustafawi (aged 43) is a Qatari national and is Group CEO of Masraf Al Rayan since inception, Board Member & Executive Director of Al Rayan Investment and Board Member of Kirnaf Investment & Installment in Saudi Arabia. He has twenty years of experience in Treasury capital markets and Banking. Prior to MAR, he spent ten years at Qatar National Bank where the last position held was Treasurer and five years at the Government of Qatar Investment Office. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona, USA, majoring in Finance.
Mr Jamal Abdullah Al-Jamal, DIRECTOR
Mr Al-Jamal (aged 43) is a Qatari national and is Deputy CEO at the Qatar International Islamic Bank ("QIIB"). He is also Managing Director at the Qatar Islamic Insurance Company ("QIIC"). Since 1997 Mr. Al - Jamal has held various positions at QIIB and prior to 1997 he was with the Internal Audit Department at Qatar Central Bank. He was educated at Qatar University and graduated as a Bachelor of Accounting.
