Islamic Bank of Britain is run day-to-day by a senior management team overseen by an elected Board of Directors. The current members of the Board are:
Mr Mohsen Moustafa, CHAIRMAN
Mr Moustafa currently holds the position of Deputy CEO at Qatar International Islamic Bank in Doha, Qatar.
QIIB is a major shareholder of IBB Plc and was the original sponsor of IBB’s financial activities in 2002/03.
For 24 years Mr Moustafa worked for three major US banks in California - Wells Fargo, Security Pacific and Union Bank – where he gained retail and corporate banking experience. In 1999, Mr Moustafa was offered a senior management position at Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB). Mr Moustafa implemented a major restructuring project, bringing the best American banking and management model to QIIB.
Mr Moustafa holds a BA (Hons) in Accounting and a Post Graduate Diploma in Cost Accounting.
Mr Robert Owen, SENIOR INDEPENDENT (Non-Executive) DIRECTOR
Mr Owen joined the Board in February 2007 and he is currently Chief Executive of Chambers Harris Limited.
From 2000 to 2006, Mr Owen was Chief Executive of London Mortgage Company, leading the company through its successful programme of securisations (MARS).
A former director of the Finance Industry Standards Association and Prima Insurance Company, Mr Owen’s experience includes roles at Lloyds TSB, Kensington Mortgage Company and Yorkshire Building Society.
Mr Owen has BA and MBA degrees and he is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers.
Mr Abdul Hakim Al-Adhamy, NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Mr Al-Adhamy has over 35 years experience in the provision of audit and advisory services to clients, both in financial and non-financial sectors, as well as corporate governance advisory services to conventional and Islamic investment banks and trading companies.
A former Partner at KPMG Bahrain & Qatar and at Ernst & Young Bahrain, Mr Al-Adhamy holds a number of Directorships – including the Board of Ebrahim Khalil Kanoo, Bahrain Shareholding Company (Close) and the Risk and Corporate Governance Committee at Kuwait Finance House in Bahrain.
Mr Al-Adhamy is a British national and holds a BA degree in Accounting from the University of Baghdad and he is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales.
Mr Gerry Deegan, MANAGING DIRECTOR
Mr Deegan has over 37 years experience in the banking sector. Mr Deegan spent his early career with AIB Bank where he held a number of managerial positions in the Retail Banking Division, in support and line roles.
In 1995, Mr Deegan joined Al Bank Al Saudi al Fransi as Head of Retail Banking, when he led the successful turnaround of the retail network. In 2002, Mr Deegan was appointed AGM and Head of Retail Banking at Commercial Bank of Qatar. Mr Deegan assisted the bank to become a leading player in e-commerce and Retail Banking services in the State of Qatar. In 2004 Mr Deegan was appointed as Deputy CEO at Ahli United Bank in Bahrain and was posted to Ahli Bank Qatar. During his mandate, Mr Deegan oversaw programme of major growth at Ahlibank Qatar.
Mr Deegan joined Islamic Bank of Britain in November 2006 as Commercial Director and was subsequently appointed as Managing Director in January 2007.
Mr Deegan holds a BBS (Hons) degree from Limerick University (Ireland) and a Graduate Diploma (Hons) from the Institute of Bankers Ireland.
Mr Sultan Choudhury, COMMERCIAL DIRECTOR
Mr Choudhury started his career at IBB Plc in January 2004 as Head of Sales & Marketing and was appointed Commercial Director in June 2007.
Mr Choudhury implemented the successful set up of the Bank’s Head Office operations, including the growth of its branch network. Mr Choudhury has led the development and implementation of IBB’s full product range and service delivery channels Mr Choudhury is a member of various Community and Government advisory groups and has contributed significantly to the development of Islamic Financial Services in the UK.
Mr Choudhury previously held senior roles at Charles Schwab Europe, Barclays Private Bank and Deloitte & Touche.
Mr Choudhury, a Chartered Accountant (ACA), holds a BA (Hons) in Economics & Econometrics and an MBA by the University of Aston.
